Ciudad Colón
Tucked along the scenic landscape of Costa Rica’s countryside, 20 miles west of the capital city San Jose, is charming Ciudad Colón. The village has a menagerie of cultures that harmoniously blend making it a very unique destination. The University for Peace, located at the edge of town, attracts a mix of global minded, save-the-planet thinkers from more than fifty countries. This unique blend of local Costa Ricans and the UPeace global community makes this village extraordinary.
Ciudad Colón is a great walking community with big city offerings but with a friendly, small town feel. With dozens of restaurants, numerous shops, three weekly farmer’s markets with organic offerings, Spanish schools, kilometres of hiking trails and cultural events galore, it is a great place to live or visit.
The village is nestled into the hillside with breathtaking views of Poas Volcano to the north. The year-round tropical climate and lush green landscape is noteworthy. The town is surrounded by coffee plantations and horse farms which makes this a precious destination.
With the addition of the new CR-27 expressway, the Pacific Ocean is now a short 45-minute drive away. There is an impressive list of day trips from here also; volcanoes, beaches, botanical gardens, waterfalls, coffee tours, horseback riding, museums and more.
